On the last day of the summer term staff and pupil’s celebrated the contribution to Chaigeley of our much loved principal Jan Barlow. Staff and pupils took part in games, activities and even had a visit from an Ice Cream Van. Jan got a tremendous send off from the pupil’s in an outdoor celebration assembly in the glorious sunshine, several pupils took the opportunity to speak in front of the whole school and offer some kind heartfelt words to the retiring principal
Jan had made the difficult decision to finally retire at the end of the academic year and it was an emotional farewell for her after 22 years’ service at Chaigeley.
Jan started in 1999 as our Art teacher and was fortunate to have had the opportunities to undertake different senior management roles over many years culminating in her role as Principal for the last four years.
Jan has seen many changes during her time at Chaigeley and has always been fully committed to the education, support and welfare of her pupils. She has been instrumental in moving our school forward and ready for the next chapter in its long history.
“I consider myself so fortunate to have found this amazing school all those years ago and knew from my first day this was where I wanted to be. It has always been a welcoming and friendly school with a staff team dedicated to the care and education of our pupils. It has been fantastic to see our pupils’ flourish during their time here and benefit from the support provided. Visitors always comment on the friendly staff and pupils, lovely atmosphere and beautiful grounds we are lucky to have.
I consider it an honour and a huge privilege to have ended my career as Principal of this unique school; though it was a sad and emotional few days’ saying goodbye to everyone. Chaigeley will always hold a special place in my heart with many cherished and happy memories”
Best of luck in retirement Jan. You will be missed by all.
