Welcome to Lilac Class
We are the KS2 class for Chaigeley and we are a class full of enthusiasm, energy and exuberance. Our class team is made up of Anna Browne, Ruth Myers, Paula Leigh and Isobel Bircumshaw.

January 2023
This month in Lilac class we are focusing on a thematic approach to Natural Disasters. We have been creating some information posters abut climate change in English using ‘The Snail and the Whale’ to support our learning. We will be moving on to looking at the ‘Flood’ picture book and creating our own narratives. In Geography, we have enjoyed designing our own volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis. In Maths, we are exploring properties of shapes and learning about angles.
Lilac go swimming every week and we visited the Blue Planet Aquarium, to support our learning of the world around us. Lilac are welcoming two new pupils to our class this term.
March 2023
Lilac class have been looking at Harry Potter in English with a focus on ‘is that me in the mirror’, they have been able to produce some lovely letter writing and character description work.
In maths we have been focusing on measurements and fractions which they have all done brilliantly.
Along with larch class, Lilac class have continued to partake in swimming once a week.
As the weather gets warmer we are starting to enjoy more outdoor trips such as going to Walton gardens.
RC has started to do a life skills lesson on Wednesday afternoon and is a wonderful chef!
TL, EJJ and SS have started to take an interest in music lessons.
Our newest member of the class DG has been making great efforts to settle into Chaigeley.
May 2023
Lilac class have had a brilliant term, they have all been enjoying this warm weather (like us all!) so have had some trips to the park and lots of outside fun.
They have also visited the Eurovision village in Liverpool which was great fun and they all represented the school brilliantly. As a class we had a lovely discussion of ideas going forward for our life skills sessions.
In class we have been focusing on ancient Greek, all children can now retell some ancient Greek myths and identify some Greek gods and their qualities. We covered mental health awareness week and incorporated it into our learning.
There has been some wonderful model making in art with Amy. The whole of lilac class has really impressed staff in maths with their knowledge of fractions. One piece of work the pupils all really enjoyed was learning about Marcus Rashford’s football career and charitable work.

Activities – Lilac have been learning about chocolate and reading Charlie and the chocolate factory during their English lesson. Lilac have designed and created their own chocolate and made some yummy chocolate skewers by melting chocolate in a bowl and pouring this over some marshmallows and fruit on a stick.
In life skills Lilac have been learning about the people who help us. They have put out their own pretend fires by using a water bottle to wash paint (Fire) off a picture of a house. They have also become police detectives to help solve a cartoon crime with lots of physical evidence for them to smell, see and touch.
Trips- Every Wednesday afternoon Lilac go on the mini bus to big swim for their swimming lessons. They enjoy this very much and have been practicing swimming on both their fronts and backs.
Lesson content- English we are reading Charlie and the chocolate factory and we have been learning all about South America in Geography. We have learn about some of the countries in South America, some of the environments, such as rainforests, and much more.
